Love's Labour's Lost -- LCSC Silverthorne Theatre June 6-9

Our inaugural independent Shakespeare production!

Love’s Labour’s Lost is set in and about the grounds of the palace of the King of Navarre. The king in his enthusiasm for learning has sworn that he and his court shall do nothing but study for three years time — including no distracting contact with the opposite sex.

However, the king has forgotten that the Princess of France is due to visit on state matters. When the Princess and her companions arrive they decide, being French, to put an end to the king’s ridiculous ban on “hot cha-cha”.

It doesn’t take much for the king and his court to fall for these beauties and each, in turn, forsakes his vow of abstinence for the sake of love.

Meanwhile the king’s jester openly flaunts the “no hot cha-cha” edict with Jaquanetta while Moth yearns to reveal her more than affectionate feelings for Don Adriano and Nathaniel and Holoferna hide their love beneath their vestments (no peeking!).

The men decide to play a trick to test their new loves but the ladies find out about it in time to turn the tables on them. Their evening ends with the minor members of the court presenting love sonnets, songs, and dances.

All is going very well indeed until affairs of state get in the way of affairs of the heart...
